Anti-icing technology for asphalt concrete
Winter road maintenance technology
How Grikol works It does not melt the ice mass — it weakens the bond between ice and asphalt.
1Moisture dissolves chlorides in the upper pavement layer.
2Capillary transport and wheel loads help bring the solution to the surface.
3A thin brine film prevents ice from bonding firmly to the asphalt.

As a result, ice and compacted snow are more easily broken by traffic and removed by mechanical cleaning.

Prevention of ice formation on
road pavements

Grikol is an anti-icing filler for asphalt mixtures designed to reduce ice formation and prevent snow and ice from bonding firmly to the pavement.

01 / How it works

Filler in the mix.
Performance at the surface.

During winter operation, a thin film of non-freezing solution forms at the pavement surface. It weakens the bond of snow and ice deposits to the pavement.

01 — MIX PRODUCTION

Added to the mix

The filler replaces part of the fine mineral component of the asphalt mixture. Dosage and mix design are selected according to the technical documentation.

02 — PAVING

Part of the pavement

The asphalt mixture is placed in the upper pavement layer using conventional asphalt production and paving processes.

03 — IN SERVICE

Preventive action

The surface film reduces the bond of snow and ice to the pavement and makes winter cleaning easier.

The filler works as part of the pavement material. Its use should be selected for the specific climate, traffic intensity and winter maintenance regime.

02 / Applications

Where icing
requires special attention.

Priority applications are locations with frequent freeze-thaw transitions and an increased risk of winter slipperiness.

Bridges
and overpasses

Bridge structures and their approaches.

Highways
and interchanges

High-traffic road sections.

Grades
and mountain roads

Descents, climbs and difficult terrain.

Urban

03 / Application history

Application history
in road construction.

Each card represents a real road project. Click a card to view a concise summary of what was built, what was checked and the recorded conclusion.

Методические рекомендации Росавтодора 2002 года по применению «Грикола» были подготовлены на основе исследований и опытно-производственных работ на федеральных и региональных дорогах. Ниже показаны отдельные объекты, по которым сохранились акты устройства и/или обследования.
04 / Environmental assessment

Environmental impact is a
separate technology argument.

In addition to road performance testing, the environmental aspects of the technology were reviewed by a specialized research institute.

05 / Application conditions

Application parameters
in context.

Performance is assessed for each specific site. Mix design, operating conditions and climate are important when selecting the solution.

Down to −6 °CApplication is documented for freeze-thaw conditions around 0 °C and down to approximately −6 °C.
6 yearsConfirmed monitoring period on the Novorizhskoye Highway, Moscow.
≥ 100Vehicles per hour — stated traffic intensity for effective application.
Per technical specificationThe dosage is specified by the applicable technical documentation and mix design for the specific pavement.

09 / Questions

Before starting
a project.

Is winter maintenance still required?

Yes. Grikol can reduce de-icer use and facilitate mechanical cleaning, but it does not eliminate winter maintenance. The maintenance regime is selected according to applicable requirements and site conditions.

How is Grikol added?

It is added during asphalt mix production, replacing part of the fine mineral component. Exact dosage, addition sequence and equipment requirements are determined by the technical documentation.

How much does the filler cost?

A current quotation requires quantity, delivery location and schedule.

What information is needed to discuss a project?

Region, project type, area and wearing-course thickness, proposed asphalt mix, quantities and schedule.
